RAP

We all know that the cost of living is affecting all of us. For families in Whatcom County, the effects have been huge causing more families to go unhoused.

Our rental assistance program (RAP) is still active thanks to the donations of our faith community members and others in Whatcom County. We provide a set amount of financial resources to the Whatcom County School District Family Engagement Specialists. They in turn select students’ families who are most in need of rent or utility assistance, car repairs, or other funding for issues that prevent the children from success at school, and the family from maintaining stability.

There are only a few pots of money in Whatcom County available for rent or utility assistance and they are emptied quickly each calendar year.

RAP funding - which keeps families in their homes preventing homelessness - is one of the most effective use of donation dollars as it costs 100 X more to help a family once they are unhoused.

The trauma of losing one’s home has a ripple effect on the health and mental health of all members of the family, which often takes years to recover from and can result in a longer cycle of homelessness.

Please donate to our most effective and efficient use of your dollars – the rental assistance program and save a family today from homelessness and trauma.

Thank you! 😊
