Why Become an Interfaith Member?

Partnering with Interfaith gives people the opportunity to be part of larger projects that directly impact our neighbors in need

Interfaith members work together in programs that reach thousands of our county neighbors each year, helping the most vulnerable with meals on the street, and warmth in the winter through our coat drive.

Interfaith Coalition serves only in Whatcom County, helping our neighbors with support from local volunteers, congregations, and businesses.

Interfaith reaches across the county with housing and other programs. Most of our funding comes from local donors, and most programs are run primarily by volunteers or with volunteer support. We are neighbors serving neighbors, and those we serve get to see diverse communities of faith working together to offer help, compassion, and encouragement in their time of need.

Working together we can do so much more than we can individually.

Interfaith members not only help provide transitional housing to help families experiencing homelessness, they work to support the housing program with supplies, turnaround cleaning, work parties, and in special ways that bring encouragement and hope. The work and resources needed for all of this would be impossible for any single group, plus we are able to attract larger community partners who are attracted to our successful work together model.

Interfaith makes it easy for members to live their faith in action, and membership enhances existing social action ministries and efforts.

Serving our neighbors face to face is a powerful experience, and is a significant instrument of change. Many faith-based organizations do not have volunteer coordinators, staff, or training to organize and supervise outreach programs to their neighbors in need. Interfaith provides opportunities for people to serve and work “hands-on” in helping, as well as the education, training, and support that is critical when working with vulnerable populations.

Interfaith Coalition members put their faith into action, working together with the goal of eliminating family homelessness and poverty in Whatcom County. Because we pool our strengths and resources, we are stronger and more effective. Even small groups and actions can make a significant difference in the lives of our neighbors in need.

If your congregation or organization would like to be part of an effective group committed to helping others, consider joining us. Interfaith Members sign a membership covenant affirming their decision and affirming our mission and vision.
